error: Use error_setg_errno() for simplicity and consistency
Use error_setg_errno() instead of passing the value of strerror() or g_strerror() to error_setg(). The separator between the error message proper and the value of strerror() changes from " : ", "", " - ", "- " to ": " in places. vhost-user: return failure if backend crash when live migration
Live migration should be terminated if the vhost-user backend crashes before the migration completes. Specifically, since the vhost device will be stopped when VM is stopped before the end of the live migration, in current implementation if the backend crashes, vhost-user device set_status() won't return failure, live migration won't perceive the disconnection between QEMU and the backend. When the VM is migrated to the destination, the inflight IO will be resubmitted, and if the IO was completed out of order before, it will cause IO error. To fix this issue: 1. Add the return value to set_status() for VirtioDeviceClass. a. For the vhost-user device, return failure when the backend crashes. b. For other virtio devices, always return 0. 2. Return failure if vhost_dev_stop() failed for vhost-user device. If QEMU loses connection with the vhost-user backend, virtio set_status() can return failure to the upper layer, migration_completion() can handle the error, terminate the live migration, and restore the VM, so that inflight IO can be completed normally. include/hw/qdev-properties: Remove DEFINE_PROP_END_OF_LIST
Now that all of the Property arrays are counted, we can remove the terminator object from each array. Update the assertions in device_class_set_props to match. With struct Property being 88 bytes, this was a rather large form of terminator. Saves 30k from qemu-system-aarch64. vdpa-dev: Fix the issue of device status not updating when configuration interruption is triggered
The set_config callback function vhost_vdpa_device_get_config in vdpa-dev does not fetch the current device status from the hardware device, causing the guest os to not receive the latest device status information. The hardware updates the config status of the vdpa device and then notifies the os. The guest os receives an interrupt notification, triggering a get_config access in the kernel, which then enters qemu internally. Ultimately, the vhost_vdpa_device_get_config function of vdpa-dev is called One scenario encountered is when the device needs to bring down the vdpa net device. After modifying the status field of virtio_net_config in the hardware, it sends an interrupt notification. However, the guest os always receives the STATUS field as VIRTIO_NET_S_LINK_UP. vdpa-dev: Fix initialisation order to restore VDUSE compatibility
VDUSE requires that virtqueues are first enabled before the DRIVER_OK status flag is set; with the current API of the kernel module, it is impossible to enable the opposite order in our block export code because userspace is not notified when a virtqueue is enabled. This requirement also mathces the normal initialisation order as done by the generic vhost code in QEMU. However, commit |

vdpa: move file descriptor to vhost_vdpa_shared
Next patches will register the vhost_vdpa memory listener while the VM is migrating at the destination, so we can map the memory to the device before stopping the VM at the source. The main goal is to reduce the downtime. However, the destination QEMU is unaware of which vhost_vdpa device will register its memory_listener. If the source guest has CVQ enabled, it will be the CVQ device. Otherwise, it will be the first one. Move the file descriptor to VhostVDPAShared so all vhost_vdpa can use it, rather than always in the first / last vhost_vdpa. vdpa: move vhost_vdpa_set_vring_ready to the caller
Doing that way allows CVQ to be enabled before the dataplane vqs, restoring the state as MQ or MAC addresses properly in the case of a migration. The patch does it by defining a ->load NetClientInfo callback also for dataplane. Ideally, this should be done by an independent patch, but the function is already static so it would only add an empty vhost_vdpa_net_data_load stub. hw/virtio: Remove unnecessary 'virtio-access.h' header
None of these files use the VirtIO Load/Store API declared by "hw/virtio/virtio-access.h". This header probably crept in via copy/pasting, remove it. Note, "virtio-access.h" is target-specific, so any file including it also become tainted as target-specific.
