Fam Zheng	726c9a3b8c	tests: Fix ubuntu.i386 image initialization The apt-get commands we run through ssh expect certain features of the tty, and refuses to work if /dev/null is used. It is ugly, but easy to satisfy. Actually, there is no reason to hide the output. It just makes things harder to diagnose. We can always redirect in the Makefile, so don't do it conditionally here. Fam Zheng	4eb9956034	docs: Add docs/devel/testing.rst To make our efforts on QEMU testing easier to consume by contributors, let's add a document. For example, Patchew reports build errors on patches that should be relatively easy to reproduce with a few steps, and it is much nicer if there is such a documentation that it can refer to. This focuses on how to run existing tests and how to write new test cases, without going into the frameworks themselves. The VM based testing section is moved from tests/vm/README which now is a single line pointing to the new doc. Eduardo Habkost	fb3b4e6d88	basevm: Call logging.basicConfig() Just setting level=DEBUG when debug is enabled is not enough: we need to set up a log handler if we want debug messages generated using logging.getLogger(...).debug() to be printed. This was not a problem before because logging.debug() calls logging.basicConfig() implicitly, but it's safer to not rely on that. Fam Zheng	ff2ebff079	tests: Add vm test lib This is the common code to implement a "VM test" to 1) Download and initialize a pre-defined VM that has necessary dependencies to build QEMU and SSH access. 2) Archive $SRC_PATH to a .tar file. 3) Boot the VM, and pass the source tar file to the guest. 4) SSH into the VM, untar the source tarball, build from the source.
