Lu	4e61a6be44	i386: Increase MALLOC_ALIGNMENT to 16 [BZ #21120 ] GCC 7 changed the definition of max_align_t on i386: https://gcc.gnu.org/git/?p=gcc.git;a=commitdiff;h=9b5c49ef97e63cc63f1ffa13baf771368105ebe2 As a result, glibc malloc no longer returns memory blocks which are as aligned as max_align_t requires. This causes malloc/tst-malloc-thread-fail to fail with an error like this one: error: allocation function 0, size 144 not aligned to 16 This patch moves the MALLOC_ALIGNMENT definition to <malloc-alignment.h> and increases the malloc alignment to 16 for i386. It is an integer-overflow-safe replacement for realloc(p, XY) and malloc(XY) (realloc(NULL, XY)). It can therefore help in preventing certain security issues in code. Florian Weimer	5bc17330eb	elf: dl-minimal malloc needs to respect fundamental alignment The dynamic linker currently uses __libc_memalign for TLS-related allocations. The goal is to switch to malloc instead. If the minimal malloc follows the ABI fundamental alignment, we can assume that malloc provides this alignment, and thus skip explicit alignment in a few cases as an optimization. It was requested on libc-alpha that MALLOC_ALIGNMENT should be used, although this results in wasted space if MALLOC_ALIGNMENT is larger than the fundamental alignment. (The dynamic linker cannot assume that the non-minimal malloc will provide an alignment of MALLOC_ALIGNMENT; the ABI provides _Alignof (max_align_t) only.)	10 years ago

Florian Weimer	29d794863c	malloc: Run fork handler as late as possible [BZ #19431 ] Previously, a thread M invoking fork would acquire locks in this order: (M1) malloc arena locks (in the registered fork handler) (M2) libio list lock A thread F invoking flush (NULL) would acquire locks in this order: (F1) libio list lock (F2) individual _IO_FILE locks A thread G running getdelim would use this order: (G1) _IO_FILE lock (G2) malloc arena lock After executing (M1), (F1), (G1), none of the threads can make progress. This commit changes the fork lock order to: (M'1) libio list lock (M'2) malloc arena locks It explicitly encodes the lock order in the implementations of fork, and does not rely on the registration order, thus avoiding the deadlock.	10 years ago

This mostly automatically-generated patch converts 231 sysdeps function definitions in glibc from old-style K&R to prototype-style. For __aio_sigqueue and __gai_sigqueue I had to add internal_function to the definitions as noted by Florian in <https://sourceware.org/ml/libc-alpha/2015-10/msg00595.html> to keep the functions compiling on x86 after conversion to prototype definitions. Otherwise, the patch is automatically generated with all the same exclusions and caveats as in <https://sourceware.org/ml/libc-alpha/2015-10/msg00594.html> except that it's a patch for sysdeps files. Tested for x86_64 and x86 (testsuite, and that installed stripped shared libraries are unchanged by the patch). Lu	0c5b8b5941	Add INLINE_SYSCALL_RETURN/INLINE_SYSCALL_ERROR_RETURN For ia32 PIC, the first thing of many syscalls does is to call __x86.get_pc_thunk.reg to load PC into reg in case there is an error, which is required for setting errno. In most cases, there are no errors. But we still call __x86.get_pc_thunk.reg. This patch adds INLINE_SYSCALL_RETURN and INLINE_SYSCALL_ERROR_RETURN so that i386 can optimize setting errno by branching to the internal __syscall_error without PLT. INLINE_SYSCALL_ERROR_RETURN is designed to take the negative error number returned from the majority of Linux kernels for which negating is a no-op with INTERNAL_SYSCALL_ERRNO. Now that files using __ASSUME_* macros have been made by <https://sourceware.org/ml/libc-alpha/2014-06/msg00543.html> to include <kernel-features.h> directly, any include from a file not using __ASSUME_* macros can safely be removed (as there will no longer be some other file relying on indirect inclusion via a header from which the include is being removed). This patch removes such unnecessary kernel-features.h includes.
