Simon Marchi	18d2988e5d	gdb, gdbserver, gdbsupport: remove includes of early headers Now that defs.h, server.h and common-defs.h are included via the `-include` option, it is no longer necessary for source files to include them. Remove all the inclusions of these files I could find. Update the generation scripts where relevant. Andrew Burgess	1d506c26d9	Update copyright year range in header of all files managed by GDB This commit is the result of the following actions: - Running gdb/copyright.py to update all of the copyright headers to include 2024, - Manually updating a few files the copyright.py script told me to update, these files had copyright headers embedded within the file, - Regenerating gdbsupport/Makefile.in to refresh it's copyright date, - Using grep to find other files that still mentioned 2023. If these files were updated last year from 2022 to 2023 then I've updated them this year to 2024. I'm sure I've probably missed some dates. Feel free to fix them up as you spot them.	3 years ago

Simon Marchi	65cded61a2	gdbsupport: add string_xml_appendf Add a version of buffer_xml_printf (defined in gdbsupport/buffer.{c,h}) that appends to an std::string, rather than a struct buffer. Call it "string" rather than "buffer" since it operates on an std::string rather than a buffer. And call it "appendf" rather than "printf", since it appends to and does not replace the string's content. This mirrors string_appendf. Place the new version in gdbsupport/xml-utils.h. The code is a direct copy of buffer_xml_printf. The old version is going to disappear at some point, which is why I didn't do any effort to share code. Simon Marchi	06b3c5bdb0	gdbsupport: rename source files to .cc This patch renames the .c source files in gdbsupport to .cc. In the gdb directory, there is an argument against renaming the source files, which is that it makes using some git commands more difficult to do archeology. Some commands have some kind of "follow" option that makes git try to follow renames, but it doesn't work in all situations. Given that we have just moved the gdbsupport directory, that argument doesn't hold for source files in that directory. I therefore suggest renaming them to .cc, so that they are automatically recognized as C++ by various tools and editors. The original motivation behind this is that when building gdbsupport with clang, I get: CC agent.o clang: error: treating 'c' input as 'c++' when in C++ mode, this behavior is deprecated [-Werror,-Wdeprecated] In the gdb/ directory, we make clang happy by passing "-x c++". We could do this in gdbsupport too, but I think that renaming the files is a better long-term solution. gdbserver still does its own build of gdbsupport, so a few changes in its Makefile are necessary. gdbsupport/ChangeLog: * Makefile.am: Rename source files from .c to .cc. Tom Tromey	01027315f5	Move gdbsupport to the top level This patch moves the gdbsupport directory to the top level. This is the next step in the ongoing project to move gdbserver to the top level. The bulk of this patch was created by "git mv gdb/gdbsupport gdbsupport". This patch then adds a build system to gdbsupport and wires it into the top level. Then it changes gdb to use the top-level build. gdbserver, on the other hand, is not yet changed. It still does its own build of gdbsupport. Tom Tromey	268a13a5a3	Rename common to gdbsupport This is the next patch in the ongoing series to move gdbsever to the top level. This patch just renames the "common" directory. The idea is to do this move in two parts: first rename the directory (this patch), then move the directory to the top. This approach makes the patches a bit more tractable. I chose the name "gdbsupport" for the directory. However, as this patch was largely written by sed, we could pick a new name without too much difficulty. Joel Brobecker	42a4f53d2b	Update copyright year range in all GDB files. This commit applies all changes made after running the gdb/copyright.py script. Note that one file was flagged by the script, due to an invalid copyright header (gdb/unittests/basic_string_view/element_access/char/empty.cc). As the file was copied from GCC's libstdc++-v3 testsuite, this commit leaves this file untouched for the time being; a patch to fix the header was sent to gcc-patches first. gdb/ChangeLog: Update copyright year range in all GDB files.	8 years ago
Simon Marchi	e6a58aa8a7	Add xml_escape_text_append and use it [This patch should go on top of "linux_qxfer_libraries_svr4: Use std::string", I should have sent them together as a series.] I noticed that linux_qxfer_libraries_svr4 used xml_escape_text, which returns an std::string. That string is then copied into a larger buffer. It would be more efficient if we had a version of xml_escape_text which appended to an existing string instead of returning a new one. This is what this patch does. I manually verified that the output of linux_qxfer_libraries_svr4 didn't change before/after the patch. gdb/ChangeLog: * common/xml-utils.c (xml_escape_text): Move code to... Simon Marchi	224c3ddb89	Add casts to memory allocation related calls Most allocation functions (if not all) return a void* pointing to the allocated memory. In C++, we need to add an explicit cast when assigning the result to a pointer to another type (which is the case more often than not). The content of this patch is taken from Pedro's branch, from commit "(mostly) auto-generated patch to insert casts needed for C++". I validated that the changes make sense and manually reflowed the code to make it respect the coding style. I also found multiple places where I could use XNEW/XNEWVEC/XRESIZEVEC/etc. Thanks a lot to whoever did that automated script to insert casts, doing it completely by hand would have taken a ridiculous amount of time. Only files built on x86 with --enable-targets=all are modified. This means that all other -nat.c files are untouched and will have to be dealt with later by using appropiate compilers. Or maybe we can try to build them with a regular g++ just to know where to add casts, I don't know. I built-tested this with --enable-targets=all and reg-tested. Here's the changelog entry, which was not too bad to make despite the size, thanks to David Malcom's script.
