Andrew Burgess	1d506c26d9	Update copyright year range in header of all files managed by GDB This commit is the result of the following actions: - Running gdb/copyright.py to update all of the copyright headers to include 2024, - Manually updating a few files the copyright.py script told me to update, these files had copyright headers embedded within the file, - Regenerating gdbsupport/Makefile.in to refresh it's copyright date, - Using grep to find other files that still mentioned 2023. If these files were updated last year from 2022 to 2023 then I've updated them this year to 2024. I'm sure I've probably missed some dates. Feel free to fix them up as you spot them.	3 years ago

Re-running update-gnulib.sh causes a few copyright notices to change. Presumably these are from upstream gnulib and shouldn't be touched by our yearly update. Rainer Orth	10a63f80ae	[PR build/29791] gnulib: Disable _GL_ATTRIBUTE_DEALLOC on Solaris gdbsupport compilation badly fails with GCC 12 on Solaris, with errors like ../gnulib/config.h:1693:72: error: ‘malloc’ attribute argument 1 is ambiguous 1693 \| # define _GL_ATTRIBUTE_DEALLOC(f, i) __attribute__ ((__malloc__ (f, i))) \| ^ ../gnulib/config.h:1693:72: note: use a cast to the expected type to disambiguate We've not yet been able to determine where the ambiguity actually lies, so this patch works around the issue by disabling _GL_ATTRIBUTE_DEALLOC on Solaris, at least as a workaround for GDB 13. As Tom suggested in the PR, this is done using our infrastructure for local gnulib patches. Tested on sparcv9-sun-solaris2.11, amd64-pc-solaris2.11, and x86_64-pc-linux-gnu. Murphy	9c9d63b15a	gnulib: update to 776af40e0 This fixes PR27184, a failure to compile gdb due to cdefs.h being out of sync with glibc on ppc64le targets which are compiled with -mabi=ieeelongdouble and glibc 2.32. Likewise, update usage of _GL_ATTRIBUTE_FORMAT_PRINTF to _GL_ATTRIBUTE_FORMAT_PRINTF_STANDARD. Likewise, disable newly added rpl_free gnulib api in gdbserver support libraries. Likewise, undefine read/write macros before redefining them on mingw targets. Likewise, wrap C++ usage of free with GNULIB_NAMESPACE namespace as needed. Tom Tromey	d706b69e48	Do not adjust mtime timezone on Windows PR win32/25302 notes that gdb will crash when trying to "run" even a simple program on Windows. The essential bug here is that the BFD cache can easily be corrupted -- I have sent a separate patch for that. The particular reason that the cache is corrupted on Windows is that gnulib overrides "stat" to make it do timezone adjustment -- but BFD does not use this version of stat. The difference here triggers the latent cache bug, but can also cause other bugs as well; in particular it can cause spurious warnings about source files being newer. This patch simply removes the stat override on mingw, making gnulib and BFD agree. I tested this by backing out the local AdaCore changes to work around this bug and then verifying that I could reproduce it. Simon Marchi	5f661e0397	gnulib: import count-one-bits module and use it For a fix I intend to submit, I would need a function that counts the number of set bits in a word. There is __builtin_popcount that is supported by gcc and clang, but there is also a gnulib module that wraps that and provides a fallback for other compilers, so I think it would be good to use it. I also noticed that there is a bitcount function in arch/arm.c, so I thought that as a first step I would replace that one with the gnulib count-one-bits module. This is what this patch does. Christian Biesinger	c0c3707ff4	Update Gnulib to the latest git version This patch allows us to remove a workaround in common-defs.h due to the gnulib fix in: https://lists.gnu.org/archive/html/bug-gnulib/2019-11/msg00024.html All of GDB's local Gnulib patches were already fixed upstream per their descriptions, so this patch removes them all. The problem listed here: https://sourceware.org/ml/gdb-patches/2019-08/msg00553.html was probably partially fixed by moving gnulib to the toplevel; for the remainder, I am setting MAKEOVERRIDES to empty in gnulib/Makefile.am. Tom Tromey	73cc72729a	Move gnulib to top level This patch moves the gdb/gnulib subdirectory to the top level. It adjusts the top-level build system to build gnulib when necessary, and changes gdb to use this. However, gdbserver still builds its own copy of gnulib, just from the new source location. A small hack was needed to ensure that gnulib is only built when gdb is enabled. The Makefile only provides an ordering -- the directory must be mentioned in configdirs to actually be compiled at all. Most of the patch is just a "git mv" of gnulib, though a few minor path adjustments were needed in some files there. Tested by the buildbot. Note that one file was flagged by the script, due to an invalid copyright header (gdb/unittests/basic_string_view/element_access/char/empty.cc). We can either put back the HAVE_MKDTEMP ifdef, or import the gnulib mkdtemp module, which provides the function for mingw. Since the mkdir_recursive is susceptible to be used on mingw at some point, I think it would be nice to have it tested on mingw, so I did the latter. Once built, I tested it on Windows (copied the resulting gdb.exe on a Windows machine, ran it, and ran "maint selftest mkdir_recursive"). It failed, because the temporary directory is hardcoded to "/tmp/...". Simon Marchi	b567ca638c	Carry the gnulib getcwd backport as a patch Commit `e2fc52e745` ("Fix PR gdb/23558: Use system's 'getcwd' when cross-compiling GDB") backported some changes from a future gnulib version to our import. However, this means that every time someone wants to change our gnulib import (e.g. add a module), they must make sure not to include that backported change. It also means that someone running the update-gnulib.sh script without changes will get some diffs and wonder why. Instead, I suggest we carry that backport as a patch applied by the update-gnulib.sh script after running the import tool. It will make it clear what backport or local modification we have and should make running update-gnulib.sh give a reproducible result. There is a hunk in the configure file in this patch, this is because the commit that backported the getcwd bits didn't include the re-generated configure. Sergio Durigan Junior	fcc9b044b7	Automatically update "aclocal_m4_deps" when updating gnulib When we update gnulib using our "update-gnulib.sh" tool, it doesn't automatically update the list of M4 files present at gnulib/Makefile.in:aclocal_m4_deps. This patch extends the tool to do that. It also puts "aclocal_m4_deps" in its own file (a Makefile fragment), so that it's easier to update it programatically. Sergio Durigan Junior	7a6dbc2fdb	Update gnulib to current upstream master It has been a while since we don't update our gnulib copy against their upstream master branch, so I thought I'd propose this patch. It also fixes (at least) one bug reported against GDB: https://sourceware.org/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=23558 The problem reported there is about the replacement of 'getcwd' when cross-compiling GDB. With our current gnulib copy, the mechanism for deciding whether to use the system's 'getcwd' or gnulib's version is too simplistic and pessimistic, so when cross-compiling we always end up using gnulib's version, which has a limitation: it cannot handle the situation when the parent directory doesn't have read permissions. This has been reported against upstream gnulib and the fix has been pushed here: https://git.savannah.gnu.org/cgit/gnulib.git/commit/?id=a96d2e67052c879b1bcc5bc461722beac75fc372 I regtested this patch on Fedora 28 x86-64, and there were no regressions. Simon Marchi	d0ac1c4488	Bump to autoconf 2.69 and automake 1.15.1 When trying to run the update-gnulib.sh script in gdb, I get this: Error: Wrong automake version (Unescaped left brace in regex is deprecated, passed through in regex; marked by <-- HERE in m/\${ <-- HERE ([^ =:+{}]+)}/ at /opt/automake/1.11.1/bin/automake line 4113.), we need 1.11.1. Aborting. Apparently, it's an issue with a regex in automake that triggers a warning starting with Perl 5.22. It has been fixed in automake 1.15.1. So I think it's a good excuse to bump the versions of autoconf and automake used in the gnulib import. And to avoid requiring multiple builds of autoconf/automake, it was suggested that we bump the required version of those tools for all binutils-gdb. For autoconf, the 2.69 version is universally available, so it's an easy choice. For automake, different distros and distro versions have different automake versions. But 1.15.1 seems to be the most readily available as a package. In any case, it's easy to build it from source. I removed the version checks from AUTOMAKE_OPTIONS and AC_PREREQ, because I don't think they are useful in our case. They only specify a lower bound for the acceptable version of automake/autoconf. That's useful if you let the user choose the version of the tool they want to use, but want to set a minimum version (because you use a feature that was introduced in that version). In our case, we force people to use a specific version anyway. For the autoconf version, we have the check in config/override.m4 that enforces the version we want. It will be one less thing to update next time we change autotools version. I hit a few categories of problems that required some changes. They are described below along with the chosen solutions. Problem 1: configure.ac:17: warning: AM_INIT_AUTOMAKE: two- and three-arguments forms are deprecated. Sergio Durigan Junior	6ec2e0f5bd	Import "glob" and "getcwd" modules from gnulib These two modules are necessary because of the rework that will be done in the "change directory" logic on GDB/gdbserver in the next commits. First, we will get rid of the "gdb_dirbuf" global variable and instead rely on the fact that "getcwd (NULL, 0)", which is a GNU extension, returns a heap-allocated string with the necessary bytes to hold the full path. This is a good practice not only because globals are not ideal but also because there is no good way to know beforehand the size of the full pathname allowed in the filesystem ("PATH_MAX" is not portable and does not reflect all the possible filesystems out there). We will also have a way to "cd" to a directory also on gdbserver, but in order to do that uniformly, there must be a way to do tilde expansion on directories provided by the user. Currently, GDB uses "tilde_expand" from readline to do that, but gdbserver doesn't link against readline and therefore cannot use this function. The solution is to use "glob" instead, which can perform tilde expansion as a GNU extension. Therefore, we need gnulib's version of "glob". A special note is necessary for gdb/ser-tcp.c. It defines "close" as "closesocket" on Win32 targets. If we leave the code as is, this would conflict with gnulib's definition of "close".
